By Dave Graybill

I mentioned that Grant County PUD had added a great new boat launch off Spanish Castle Road between Crescent Bar and Rock Island. They are adding to the work they are doing to the boat launch at Crescent Bar. A couple of years ago they dredged the channel here so boats can access Crescent Bar year-round, no matter how low the water level gets on the Columbia. New improvements include a two-lane launch and boat dock that are free and open to the public. They are also adding a new RV campground and other facilities, including parks, beaches and walking trails. These are expected to open by late June or July. The golf course will now be open throughout the season. These improvements are all great, but I am particularly excited about the new launch. I have wanted to explore the Columbia River around Crescent Bar for some time. I fished here for smallmouth bass many years ago and had a blast. Now I want to find walleye that I know are abundant down there. The launch will put me right in the middle of the great walleye water, and I can’t wait to put my boat in and start fishing!
