By Dave Graybill

The fall fishing for king salmon is going great guns in the Hanford Reach, with anglers boating three-fish limits on a regular basis. This fall run is once again enormous and if you need to load your freezer this is the time to do it and where to go. If you are new to this fishery it would be a good idea to hire a guide for your first trip. You would be able to learn how to navigate this stretch of the Columbia and learn the best ways to catch these prized kings. I also wanted to pass on what I learned about rumors that people would be ticketed for camping near the launch at Vernita. I talked to Mike Livingston, Director of Region 3, and he thinks this got started as there is a three-day limit on camping at Ringold. There is no such rule in place at Vernita and although camping time limits have been considered it will take a process of a couple of years at least if they were to be adopted. So, no worries for now. Another very good option for anglers this fall is fishing for walleye on Potholes Reservoir and Banks Lake.
