By Dave Graybill

There will be a big crowd of anglers gathered at Burke Lake this weekend. They will be there to participate in the 5th annual Tagged Trout Derby, but this will not be the only lake that gets attention. Several lakes in the Quincy and George area opened on March 1st, and with the good weather I expect to see trout anglers out in force on Quincy, Martha and Caliche lakes as well. Fishing at the quality lakes like Dusty, near Burke Lake and Lenice and Nunnally, near Beverly should be particularly good this year, due to our early spring weather. I got a call from some one that has been fishing the Wenatchee River in the stretch above the Highway 2 Bridge saying that the steelhead fishing is good now that the water has dropped. He has been catching a mix of wild and hatchery fish and has seen good numbers of other anglers taking fish, too. I want to remind anglers that fishing should also be excellent on the Methow and Okanogan rivers. Every year I get reports from steelhead anglers that are making spectacular catches on these two rivers right up to when they close at the end of March.
