Everyone is very pleased the season opened as sockeye fishing at Lake Wenatchee is very good. There were three of us in my boat on the opening day, last Thursday, and we had our limits by 7 a.m. I should tell people if you plan on fishing the lake to fish much deep than is typical for the early season on the lake. I put my riggers down to 66 feet and had great action at this depth. I used the same rigs I that I was using when I finished the season on the Brewster Pool, which was three red hooks. I have some white glow beads on the second hook, too. The 12- to 14-inch leader length I was using in Brewster worked just fine on Lake Wenatchee, too. Remember, there is just one launch at the State Park for the huge number of boats that want to get in on the action here, so plan on arriving very, very early to avoid a long line and to get a parking spot. Depending on fishing pressure and success the season my only last a week, so if you want some Lake Wenatchee sockeye better do it right away.
