Good news for fans of sockeye fishing at Lake Wenatchee. It appears that at least 40,000 fish have made it over Tumwater Dam and the season is going to be much longer than earlier anticipated. I was hearing that we may only have a week to fish for sockeye on Lake Wenatchee and now it looks like we will be fishing through the month of August. I made my last trip to the lake last Monday. Conditions were much different. The skies were overcast and it was blowing hard. On my previous three outings it was clear and calm. I had fast action in the early morning, though. My fishing partner District Ranger Jeff Rivera and I hooked five fish right away, but we didn’t put any of then in the net. He had to leave early so I dropped him off and went back out. Rollie Schmitten told me about a new spot to try and managed to hook three and land them, all by myself! I tried for two hours to finish my limit without success. That’s how it goes. Anglers should continue to have good success when the weather cooperates.
