My wife and I made a trip to Lake Roosevelt last week, launching at the park at Spring Canyon. I had fished here last winter and wanted to try Roosevelt in the summer. Last winter we fished right across from the launch and had good fishing for rainbow trout. This time we ran up the lake to near Plum Point and trolled along the cliffs. We were looking for both rainbow and kokanee, but I also had the bass gear in. Keith Jensen, of Big Wally’s Guide Service, told me to look for fish in 100 to 120 feet of water and put my baits down about 40 feet to start. It worked! Several rainbow went into the cooler in this area before it was time to take a swim. A sandy beach above and across from Plum Point was perfect for this. We then worked our way down the lake fishing for smallmouth bass. Bass were just about everywhere we cast our lines. It was really fun. Then we spent a little more time trolling for rainbow and ended the day with a double. We both agreed that we want to go back, and time spend the night and fish two days!
