My brother Rick and I wanted to have some fish to display for the seminar last Wednesday, so we ran down to Vernita. We started in the King Hole and hooked a huge sturgeon. It jumped once and must have been 10 feet long! We left there and headed up river and started back trolling eggs on divers. We had five fish in the boat by 11:30. It was up to me to get the last fish, and of course that took a while. I finally hooked one and lost it at the boat. We changed areas and I finally managed to get it to the net. Now it was 12:40. Isn’t that the way if always goes. Getting that last fish can take forever. The fish ranged in size from about 10 pounds to over 15 pounds and when they hit they tore off huge amounts of line. This is about as fun as it gets. There are plenty of fish at Vernita now, and many more on the way. There could be as many as a million fall run fish come over Bonneville Dam. This is the year to take advantage of this fall run. Who knows when we will see numbers like this again.
