I made it up to Omak Lake last Saturday to try for Lahontan cutthroat. The trip was inspired by the visit of Fred Lillian, who was on the trip to Belize with me, to our area. Eric Granstrom and I picked him up in Pateros and away we went. We started in the North Embayment, got just one fish, and headed down lake. We set up shop near the large rock on the southwest shore, as Anton Jones of Darrell and Dads Family Guide Service suggested, and went to work. When we got the depth down, which was 50 feet, the lure, which was the three-inch white with red Needlefish and the speed, which was from 1.2 to 1.5, we caught fish regularly. Most were in the 12- to 14-inch class, but we caught a couple that were well over 20 inches. We made a stop at an area I call The Walk and picked up a double here, and then got another double in the launch bay. We had a blast and if you want to do the same, remember this is a Colville Trial Lake and requires their fishing permit. It costs $10.00 for one day, and is well worth it.
