By Dave Graybill

Both summer Chinook and sockeye salmon are racing up the Columbia River and are even starting to come over Priest Rapids Dam in good numbers. As many as 2,000 summer runs a day are passing over Priest and sockeye counts have hit as high as 1,200. These are very early returns. We will see both the Chinook and sockeye numbers get much higher as we approach the July 1st opening for the summer run season. The sockeye season has already opened below Priest Rapids Dam. Anglers can now fish for sockeye here, with a daily limit of six. I will be waiting to hear how people do down there. Not many fish for sockeye in this stretch. While I wait for the summer run opener I am going to spend some time shooting some new Fishing TV Shows. I am doing one on sturgeon fishing below Rock Island Dam with Austin Moser, and another on fishing for Lahontan cutthroat on Omak Lake. I have never done a show on Omak Lake and this is a great time for big numbers of cutthroat here. I will be sure to let you know how we do on this scenic lake just outside of the town of Omak.
