Here it comes. The first weekend of summer-like weather for the region, is forecast, and that means a lot of folks will be out on the water. The water temperatures in our area lakes have continued to be unseasonably cool, and that has been to the advantage of those who enjoy trout fishing. Trout are still eager to bite and in great condition on most of our waters. The warm weather will start to move them deeper as they seek the optimum 58 degree thermocline that they prefer. The deeper the lake the longer it will take to warm up. The cool water has delayed the movement of smallmouth bass to the spawning beds in some of our big impoundments. Anglers fishing in the recent bass tournament on Lake Chelan found beds occupied by small males but the big females hadn’t moved up yet. I am fishing Chelan this week and my timing by be just right. I suspect the same is true for Banks Lake. I will find out as I will be on Banks Lake this week as well. If you’re heading out this weekend take lots of water and don’t forget the sunscreen.
