I had a particularly good Fathers Day weekend. My daughter Whitney came over from Seattle to spend it with me. Of course we went fishing! She loves fishing for smallmouth bass at Banks Lake, so off we went. Put in at the mid way launch and started off at the boulder field just up lake from there. We both caught nice fish here and then headed across the lake to the Haystack Rock, and got more fish casting our way up the lake from there. We ran up to our favorite small bay for a swim break, and then worked our way back down. Whitney was really doing great. She was casting well, hardly ever got hung up, but missed a bunch of fish. She did notice that the smallmouth we were catching were larger than the last trip here, which was before the drawdown. I have said that I think I catch 20 percent few fish in a day, but they are at least 20 percent larger. We had good luck casting small lizards with a small bullet weight on the top of the hook for casting, and crank bait really work well on Banks right now. This is a great time to fish Banks for good numbers of smallmouth.
