With the freezing weather we are getting right now I am looking for something to do that doesn’t require putting my boat in the water. Those who have full canvas and a heater are probably laughing at me. I have the full set up but just don’t ever put it on. Most of what I do in the winter is bobber and jig fishing and it just gets in the way. Well, I found something to get excited about that I can do from shore. The trout fishing at Lake Roosevelt is off the charts good right now. Anglers fishing off the shore near the Spring Canyon Park all the way up to Gifford are getting limits in an hour or two, and the fish are really nice. Most of them are going to be in the 15- to 16-inch class and very heavy bodied. There are carryovers to over 20 inches in Lake Roosevelt, too, but there are so many of these other fish in the water that they are few and far between. This is not complicated fishing either. Anglers are just finding a comfortable spot on the bank and casting dough baits or a marshmallow and worm combo to get their fish.
