Here’s a pop quiz about Banks Lake. True or False: Banks Lake is being drawn down for maintenance. True. The lake is down over 15 feet from full pool and continues to drop. A fishing trip to Banks Lake would be a waste of time. False! The shrinking lake is concentrating bass and walleye into a small area and the small fish they feed on, too. Anglers that are launching at Coulee Playland in Electric City are having a blast catching walleye and bass. They are feeding on small perch and crawdads are also migrating from their usual hideouts to the lower water and are targets of the walleye and bass. Fishing will continue to improve as the water level drops. Banks Lake will still be shrinking through the month of September. Anglers won’t have any trouble getting around on the lake as long as they keep to middle and use common sense. It is also an opportunity to see structure that is otherwise not visible and a great way to plot trips in the future. Fishing at Banks should be excellent through next spring, when it begins to refill. I am going up there just as soon as I can!
