I have a lot of folks interested in kokanee fishing this year. It has always been popular, but people are looking at more lakes than usual to try for kokanee. Here is what I have learned about kokanee fishing so far this season. Palmer Lake, which is northwest of Tonasket, is still very good for kokanee. The fish are large and the action is fast. Anglers can expect limits of kokanee of over 15 inches up there. A lake that is known for big kokanee is Billy Clapp, east of Soap Lake. I caught fish that were 18 inches there last year, but not until July. Anglers are trying the fishing here, but results are mixed. I know that anglers have been out on Lake Chelan and kokanee are scarce so far and what is being caught is small, very small. It is early to tell, but we may have a year class of little guys on Chelan. I got a good report on Deep Lake recently. I haven’t fished here, but plan to try it soon. According to one of my readers, you can catch bunches of kokanee, but they are running 7 to 9 inches this year. It sounds like it would still be a lot of fun.
