By Dave Graybill

I had a very busy week. After following up on the general trout opener, I got to float the Yakima River with the folks from Red’s Fly Shop. We floated and fished and even taped two television shows; one for Fishing TV and one for Cooking TV. You’re going to enjoy watching both of these programs in June. I also traveled to the lower Columbia River to fish with Shane Magnuson, of Upper Columbia Guide Services. Mark Spada of Yakima Bait joined us for the second year in a row. The spring salmon are pouring over Bonneville Dam, making their way up stream, and we were there to meet them at Drano Lake. Last year we were a bit early in the run and also were practically drowned with wet weather. Shane came through for us though and we all caught fish. I will be giving everyone the blow by blow on my experiences on both the Yakima and lower Columbia in my next few reports. I am being questioned daily about whether or not the Wenatchee River will open to springer fishing. All I can say is keep an eye on the counts and if they are as large as predicted it is very likely that we will be able to fish the Wenatchee this year.
