Anglers were busy over the Holidays and due to continued warmer weather are out in numbers fishing for steelhead on area rivers and chasing big rainbow at Rufus Woods Reservoir. I was able to get up to Wells Dam over the weekend and managed to take a few steelhead, drifting bobbers and jigs below the dam. Fishing is far from hot, but the two anglers, from Valley Marine in Yakima, were each able to take a fish home for dinner. It was a near thing, but no stop at the grocery store to buy promised fish for a meal was necessary. Rufus Woods is producing some triploids, but has yet to really get rolling and produce the numbers of big fish that are expected this winter. Anglers are sticking with it though, and when it takes off they will be ready to reap the benefits of the time they have invested here. I also visited Fish Lake, near Lake Wenatchee over the weekend and found the ice covered with anglers fishing through thick ice. The report I got was that last Friday’s fishing was red hot, with anglers taking good catches of perch and some rainbow. The bite on Sunday, however, was disappointing. Oh well, that’s fishing! People are excited about a good season on good ice at Fish Lake.
