When the dust settles after the big opening weekend of trout season, I will have a better handle on what lakes are producing the best catches for anglers in our region. I will be making a survey of many of the lakes myself and will be sure to share what I learn. I don’t expect to see many surprises in this season’s opener, and those who return to their traditional favorite lakes should have done just fine. I talked to someone that recently fished for walleye at Moses Lake and had a tough time. Many of the walleye have moved into Crab Creek to spawn but there are still good numbers in the main lake. When the water temperature rises just a few degrees and the spawn winds down there should be a real spike in good fishing for walleye on Moses. I know a lot of anglers are keeping an eye on Lake Chelan. Both the kokanee fishing and the smallmouth bass bite should take off here soon. Again it is a matter of water temperature that will bring the schools of kokanee down lake into the lower basin, and get the smallmouth on their beds.
