I expect to see a good crowd of anglers gathered at Burke and Quincy lakes this weekend. These popular trout lakes open to fishing on Friday, March 1st and anglers will be dusting off their tackle boxes, and grabbing their rods and reels to make their first fishing trip of the season. Both of these lakes get plants of catchable rainbow trout, and often produce some very nice carryover rainbow on the opener. There are several other lakes that open on March 1st. Martha Lake, which is due east of the town of George and Caliche Lake, which is in the opposite direction from George are also very popular on opening day. Lenore Lake, which is north of Soap Lake has been very good in recent years, also opens and anglers can catch sizable Lahontan cutthroat here. This lake has a one-fish daily limit of a minimum length of 18 inches. Check the regulation pamphlet to see the closed areas of the lake. Fly fishers will also be out in force, as Lake Lenice, near Beverly and Dry Falls Lake, north of Soap Lake both open to fishing. These are quality lakes with special rules. Check the regs.
