The fantastic fishing for big kokanee on the Lake Roosevelt is still happening. I joined Austin Moser, of Austins Northwest Adventures, and his clients Rick Poyner and Keith Holt on Monday to see for myself. Moser has been fishing Lake Roosevelt since December and although the fish move around and they change what they want from day to day, he landed right on top of them. We were into fish immediately and had our limits of kokanee and four nice rainbow in about 2 ½ hours of fishing. This time he started up lake from Keller and although we saw anglers fishing along the shoreline above us and below us, we were pretty much all by ourselves. Moser runs two downriggers, and we never let them down more than eight feet. He also runs two rods on side planers, and lets them out 130 feet behind the boat. He also long lines two rods off the back corners of the boat. All the rods went off at one time or another. The kokanee ranged in size from 18 inches to 20 1/2 inches and are packed with plankton. The rainbow were of a similar size. Moser was running a variety of attractors, some with a leader length of nine inches.
