Everyone believed the forecast for rain and wind at Rocky Ford last Thursday, except my fishing buddy Rollie Schmitten and me. It was raining when we left Leavenworth, but it was dry and dead calm when we arrived. However, the dead calm didn’t do us any favors. Reports of 30 and 40 fish days didn’t include us. We did catch fish, though. I started off getting three nice rainbow while Rollie got the kinks out. He finished strong, landing a total of six, losing as many and he broke on his first fish of the day. I did the about the same. Most of the fish I got averaged about 14 inches, but my last fish that I got on a white Leech, was an 18-incher. We spent most of the day casting a Mini Leech and scud combo on intermediate sinking lines. We found an orange scud particularly attractive. We had a great time, and are eager to get back to the Ford. Maybe a double digit day is in our future and we both know there are many whoppers to be caught. There is a lot of winter ahead of us to do just that.
