The Pateros Celebrates Steelhead Season event was a huge success, with over 100 people showing up at the Central Building for dinner and the seminars. One of them was Fred Lillian of Bellevue, who was on one of trips to Belize and heard about it on KVI Radio in Seattle. I decided to take may boat and get him out fishing for steelhead on Saturday morning. I didn’t get to bed until after midnight and my phone woke me before my alarm went off. It was Shane Magnuson telling me to get out of bed and get out fishing! Lillian and I ran down just below the mouth of the Methow River and fished off a point. He got his first steelhead ever there. We than fished the rocks and he got another one that we had to release. We went back to the point where I got another we needed to release. On the next pass I hooked one, and when told Lillian I had one on he said, “Will I do, too!” My fish ran under the boat and crossed our lines. I saw the two fish and his was twice the size of mine. Somehow I managed to get both of them in the net at the same time, and his won the prizes for the biggest steelhead measured on Saturday.
