It’s the time of year when I get a lot of questions about the fishing at Rufus Woods Reservoir. Well, I did some digging and I have some good news. Fishing has picked up recently, and the number of fish caught is improving. There are some dandies being landed, too, including one that weighed 18 pounds. More 5- and six-pound triploids are being landed, while most are ranging from 1 to 3 pounds. The Colville Tribe released 69,000 triploids, weighing about a pound each, from April through June of this year, and they should be about three pounds now. The tribe has also released 2,000 triploids that weighed between 2 ½ to 3 ½ pounds. All of the fish released from the tribal net pen have been adipose fin clipped. The Colville Tribal Hatchery in Bridgeport has also planted 1,500 triploids weighing 3 pounds into Buffalo Lake. There is an ice fishing season on Buffalo, and this should add some excitement to the season. It also means there will be some great fishing on this lake next spring. Buffalo is one of my favorite places to fish in the spring and fall, for both rainbow and kokanee.
