My plans for the weekend are to be in Brewster with my camera to shoot some video of the action at the annual Budweiser-Lowrance King Salmon Derby for a future Fishing TV Show. I don’t fishing in the derby, but really enjoy being there to talk to the organizers and anglers. Everyone is having a great time. I expect to see very good numbers of king weighed in this year. Right after the derby I will be back in Brewster to fish for sockeye. As I have mentioned in previous reports, the bite is very early, and to fill out the day up there I am going to take some bass gear along. The smallmouth bass fishing in the Okanogan River is excellent, so when the sockeye bite falls off I am going to shoot up the river and get after the bass. I have friends that have caught over 50 smallmouth in a day up there, and I have heard that there are some good ones being taken right now. I will probably drift some lizards and throw some crank baits to start off. You don’t have to run very far up the river to find good smallmouth water I hear.
