By Dave Graybill

My wife Eileen and I often try Evergreen Reservoir over the 4th of July holiday. We usually catch the fireworks in the evening and the Evergreen is a quick trip. It’s just outside of Quincy and makes a nice day trip from Leavenworth. This year we found the reservoir still filling and the water cold and clouded. I will use that as my excuse for poor fishing. Not every trip to Evergreen over the 4th is successful, but this one was the worst. We caught a total of three fish. Two largemouth and a smallmouth all bit on Senkos. Eileen got hers early on a 4-inch green and white, and I got a largemouth and a smallmouth on a earthworm with a neon tip. I may have done better if I would have tried this particular color earlier. That’s how it goes. I am not ready to give up on Evergreen, no way. I think that when the water temperature warms up the bass fishing is going to be great. I have had some fantastic days on Evergreen and there’s still a chance that I could have a spectacular day here yet this season.
