First we get snow, then rain and daytime temperatures well above freezing. That will add up to more water coming down our area rivers. The Wenatchee River could use a bit of water. It has been running well below the mean flow for this time of year, below 1,000 cfs. As long as we don’t get some mud slides to make the water murky it shouldn’t hurt the steelhead fishing. The Methow River is running about where it should and it won’t be as warm as the Wenatchee area up the valley there. Night time temperatures are low enough to keep things stable. None of this should bother the steelhead fishing on the main stem Columbia. When the Okanogan freezes and the Methow gets really cold, the fishing on the Columbia in the Pateros area and north will really take off. The chilly water and ice will push the steelhead into the warmer Columbia and it will be better than it is now, which isn’t bad at all. Learn how to take full advantage of the good conditions for steelhead fishing by attending the free seminar at Town Ford on December 7th. Shane Magnuson will be the speaker and it will begin at 6 p.m.
