By Dave Graybill

September has arrived and with it our fall fishing seasons and an important event. Summer-run salmon fishing continues to be great on the upper Columbia River. Anglers fishing below Wells Dam, the Brewster pool and further up stream are find the best action of the season on these kings. Due to the late arrival of many these fish, there are very bright fish being taken. Many anglers will shift their attention down stream as the fall-run kings begin to swarm into the Hanford Reach and just below Priest Rapids and Wanapum dams. The fall run is forecast as one of the best in years, with more than 200,000 more fish entering the Columbia River than last year. I have already heard of some very bright and very large kings being taken down here already. The steelhead season for our region should be announced soon. This will be the earliest opening of this fishery that I can recall. I can’t wait to see the details. The important event is the Wenatchee River Salmon Festival at the hatchery in Leavenworth. It will be held on September 18th and 19th this year, and over 10,000 people are expected to attend this free event for families.
