By Dave Graybill

There are several lakes in Okanogan County that offer terrific late-fall fishing. When they freeze they offer great ice fishing through the cold months of winter. The lakes are either closed during the warmer months are largely ignored due to catch-and-release regulation. One to consider is Davis Lake, up at the top of the Methow Valley. Davis is known for producing very fat fish in the fall and winter. The lake was stocked with 4,000 catchable size rainbow earlier this year, and they should be dandies by now. The two Green Lakes north of Omak are very popular in the fall and winter, too. They open to fishing December 1st. Little Green Lake was selected to receive a rare plant of triploided brook trout earlier this year. It will be interesting to see how fast these guys grow. Another lake that will open December 1st is Rat Lake, just outside of Brewster. Rat Lake was rehabbed a couple of years back and was reseeded with rainbow and brown trout. There should be some very hefty trout available at Rat Lake this season. Although many lakes in the region closed at the end of October, there are still lots of opportunities for trout anglers.
