Here’s another lake to get to before thin ice forms. Roses Lake always gets a very good shot of catchable rainbow in the fall, and this year the lake could receive as many 20,000. According to Anton Jones at Darrell and Dad’s Family Guide Service, there is a whole bunch of hungry rainbow cruising around Roses. These fish typically aren’t too tough to catch, too, so it would be a great place to go with the youngsters. There is shore access on the south shore of Roses Lake, and there is a very good launch with a dock. Boaters should be aware that for some reason this launch is very, very slick and four-wheel-drive is recommended. Shore anglers can expect to catch fish with dough baits or a ‘mallow and worm or ‘mallow and egg combo, and these fish will also hit cast spinners. Trollers should do well with the Flash Lites and Wedding Ring set up, and adding a piece of worm to the hook usually helps. Roses Lake, which is just over the hill from the town of Manson at Lake Chelan, is a year-round lake and is also very popular when the ice gets solid in the winter.
