Fishing for salmon on our local waters is always exciting. Catching big kings is something anglers all over the world want to experience. Fishing for bright spring salmon on the Icicle River is something special. Few fisheries offer the opportunity to experience the thrill of a line-burning powerful salmon on the line, with a backdrop of scenic beauty that is hard to match, anywhere in the world. I am always impressed with the quality of the salmon that the Icicle River produces, but I marvel even more about the experience of being on the river in the early morning. Launching the dark, anglers watch the world wake up around them while they sit at anchor, waiting for a bite. The chatter of an amazing variety of birds builds with the light and deer, coyotes, geese and other wildlife are discovered watching from the shore. I often say the beauty of Leavenworth doesn’t let you take it for granted. Several times a year I catch a view that stops me in my tracks. These are little reminders of how lucky I am to live where I do. Every day that I get to experience spring salmon fishing on the Icicle is a big reminder of the special place that is Leavenworth.
