An increase in fishing pressure from steelhead anglers has prompted a closure notice for two areas on the Okanogan River. One includes the area 100 feet below the Highway 155 Bridge to the mouth of Omak Creek, and the other impacts from the mouth of Bonaparte Creek to 100 feet below the mouth of Bonaparte Creek. For complete details, please go to the WDFW web site and look at recent news releases or search rule changes on rivers o the site. Ice is starting to clear out at the mouth of the Okanogan and steelhead will be flying up river. There can be some excellent fishing on the Okanogan in March. Ice is also disappearing fast from the lakes in the Quincy Wildlife Area. With each passing day the fishing opportunities improve, and as the water warms the trout bite will gain momentum. Here’s a note for your calendar. The annual Mule Deer dinner and auction will take place on March 21st this year, but ticket sales are being cut off on March 15th. Be sure to stop by Hooked on Toys, One Shot Firearms, Stan’s or High Mountain Hunting Supply to purchase your tickets prior to this date. Funds raised at the dinner go to local fish and wildlife projects.
