By Dave Graybill

Ham and egg trout anglers weren’t the only ones to the recent opening of the Columbia Basin lakes. There are several quality lakes that are primarily visited by fly anglers that opened at the same time. Dusty Lake near Quincy and Lenice and Nunnally lakes near Beverly opened on March 1st, too, and they offer fly anglers a shot at some fish in the 20-plus inch range. Also open is Lenore, near Soap Lake, that is famous for very large Lahontan cutthroat. Anglers not familiar with these lakes should consult the regulation before they plan to fish them. They have special rules that you should be aware of. Also of note to fly anglers is the improve fishing for steelhead on the Methow River. The river is back in shape for fishing and I have received some very exciting reports on the action on the Methow, which is primary target for steelhead for fly fishers. I am planning to fish Rufus Woods soon, and I always have a fly rod along for my trips. I swear I catch as many or more triploids on a black Wooly Bugger as anything else I toss for these trout.
