By Dave Graybill

According to the calendar, Summer officially began yesterday. That prompted me to start gathering the materials and equipment that I will be using as I put together my free E-Letter for Summer. This will be the 67th E-Letter I have sent out over the years, and this one will be dedicated to salmon fishing in the region, with emphasis on sockeye. When we have a good return of sockeye to the Columbia River, no other species draws more attention. This year the forecast is for just over 400,000, and it may exceed that. Last year the ten year average for the sockeye count over Bonneville Dam for the day was 8,758. Last year the number was 9,144. On Wednesday of this week, 21,754 sockeye passed over the dam. Wow. The opportunity for anglers to cash in on this return of sockeye is terrific, and I am going to give everyone the best information on how to catch these guys as I can gather. I come across frustrated sockeye anglers in the Brewster Pool and Lake Wenatchee, and I want to try to help them with the information in the E-Letter.
