I have mentioned that I was planning to get out on Lake Chelan with Jeff Witkowski of Darrell and Dads Family Guide Service, and we haven’t made it yet. He did go out to test a finicky outboard last week and decided to drop a line. He got four nice mackinaw in very short order and then hooked what he knew was going to be a very big fish. When he got it to the net, which was interesting as he was all alone, it was a real whopper. When he put it on a scale it weighed 27.6 pounds! Now that’s a good fish in anyone’s book. Witkowski was fishing above Rocky Point on Lake Chelan and the fish hit one of Witkowski’s hand-tied lures at 183 feet. A couple of days later he was back on the lake. This time he was with Bobby Loomis, of Macks Lure. They were focused on catching kokanee, and did pretty good. The pair landed 18 kokanee, averaging 13 inches. They got these fish above the Narrows. He mentioned that the fish are packed with shrimp. There were two suspended lake trout taken and a 16-inch cutthroat, too. I am scheduled to be out with Witkowski next Friday and boy am I ready to go!
