There’s still time to register for the tagged trout derby at Burke Lake coming up on Saturday, March 3rd. There are two tagged trout in the lake that are worth a total of $3,000.00, and there many other prizes that will be handed out to anglers at the event. If you want to be able to claim some of these prizes click on the Something Is Fishy in Quincy logo on the Home Page of my web site, fishingmagician.com, or log onto www.quincyvalleytourism.org. Several lakes in the Quincy Wildlife Area and some others near the town of George open on March 1st. I expect the biggest crowd to be at Martha Lake, just north of George, where opening day fishing is consistently excellent. Anglers always limit at Martha on the opener, and there are larger than average trout taken here. On the first weekend in March the biggest crowd will be at Burke for the tagged trout derby. The department always makes sure there are plenty of trout available to opening weekend anglers, and the QVTA adds some fat triploids to the lake to add to the fun of the derby. I’ll be at the derby, so be sure to look for me and say hello!
