I have been telling anglers that want to fish the Icicle to wait a bit. The river has been very high and the water very cold. Well, it sounds like the waiting is over. I talked to Shane Magnuson, Upper Columbia Guide Services the other day, and according to him, he doesn’t see how the fishing could get any better. He had six in the boat by 6:30 one morning and had hooked nine by nine o’clock on another. The Icicle is loaded up with fish right now, and when the water temperature warms a bit more there will be even more fish headed up the Icicle to the hatchery. Fresh eggs are always good on the Icicle, but whole herring behind a Spin N Glo is a fish getter, too. I am making my first trip to Lake Chelan in quite a while. I am taking some folks out for lake trout and kings. I may see if I can find come kokanee, but I don’t plan to spend much time on it. From what I’ve heard it’s hardly worth it. The lake trout bite is always good on Lake Chelan, though, and I figure if there is a good time to catch kings, this is it.
