By Dave Graybill

I promised you some reports on the fishing at Roses Lake and I am making good. I took the DeJarnett family, Lynann, Jeff, Justin and Travis, who had the winning bid in an auction, to Roses for some family fun. We started out trolling for rainbow. I wanted to see what the trout fishing was like, as Roses can be quite good. We did get a couple of rainbow that were 15 inches, and I would suggest that anglers give this a try early and late in the day. The rainbow are very much worth the effort, and they are going to get big by this fall. I had best success with the High Laker Special that Scott West makes at the Cove Resort at Fish Lake. I wanted some faster action so we switched to bobbers and jigs tipped with worm and tried the spiny ray fishing. They were plentiful and eager. We caught a mix of bluegill, red ear sunfish, pumpkin seed and even a few small crappie. We found fish all along the shorelines and if you want to take the kids out for some non stop fun, give this a try. Roses can also be good for perch.
