It’s getting to be that time of year when I get a lot of questions about the fishing at Rufus Woods Reservoir. In order to get some current information to you all I gave Joe Heinlen, Lake Chelan Adventures a call. He regularly guides trips on the big lake, and I figured he would have an up date for me. I was right. He had been out fishing the reservoir, with good results. As many of you know, Joe likes to work his way up the reservoir, casting to the shorelines. A variety of lures will work for him when he is on these missions. One of his favorites is the Super Rooster Tail. This is different from the standard Rooster Tail in that it has a “spinner bait” style blade instead of an in-line blade. It flutters when it falls. He also likes the Kastmaster lure, which also works well when allowed sink and flutter. One of the other methods he has found effective this season is fishing with a bobber and jig. He floats these jigs 10 to 12 feet below a bobber near the net pens. The color that is working the best is black marabou and the jigs are just 1/32 ounce.
