Climbing day-time temperatures may be signaling the end of our ice fishing season here in Central Washington. There is still plenty of safe ice on many of our area lakes, but as March approaches the solid caps may start to weaken and I advise caution to those who still want to drill holes in local lake in search of trout and perch. Right now there is still good ice and good fishing available at Fish Lake, near Lake Wenatchee, Roses Lake near Chelan, and Patterson Lake, near Winthrop to name a few. I recently talked to a couple of anglers who had just returned from Long Lake, south of Moses Lake, and they reported poor fishing for perch. Anglers are hitting the ice at the marina near Coulee City, but most of the interest is in the large whitefish that can be taken there, mainly at night. Good news for fans of Rufus Woods is that the Colville tribe will start releasing triploid into the reservoir later this month. The planned release of 2,000 triploids a month has been delayed due to the high number of smaller rainbow that are in the impoundment this winter.
