This weekend is the Kids Free Fishing Day at Rock Island. This is a great way to get your tackle together and take the family out for some trout fishing fun. The event takes place at the Pit Pond, which is a juvenile’s only lake, where only kids age 14 and under may legally fish. The hours of the event are from 9 a.m. to noon. The Department of Fish and Wildlife has filled the pond with rainbow, including some whoppers. Volunteers from the community of Rock Island will be there with coffee and donuts in the morning and at mid-day will make hot dogs for everyone. Pepsi is providing soft drinks. Bring your own gear to this one. The Wenatchee Sportsmen’s Association will be there again with rods and reels to loan and have bait, too. They want to make sure everyone has a good chance to catch a fish. Remember, the general trout season opener is the following weekend, and this is a fun tune up for the big weekend. Don’t forget to send in your Catch Report Card from last season. They need to be dropped off at a local WDFW office or mailed to Olympia by the end of the month.
