By Dave Graybill

You may have figured out by now that my wife Eileen has Mondays off. That’s why we were back at Bridgeport for steelhead. It’s her favorite spot for steelhead fishing. She got her first steelhead ever at Bridgeport. This time she got the biggest steelhead she has ever caught, a 31-inch hatchery hen. It was a fantastic battle, too. The fish jumped repeatedly. We really celebrated when we got it in the net. The next two drifts through the same spot produced just triploid and a small jack salmon, but on the next pass she hooked another steelhead—and I did, too. That’s right we had a double on and it was very interesting getting these fish to the boat. It turned out they were both wild and were released next to the boat. We fished a here a bit longer and didn’t get another steelhead. Fishing lower on the river produced just triploids, and although the hole by the bridge hadn’t produced anything this season, I gave it a try. I produced this trip. I got a very frisky buck hatchery fish on my first cast. I released a wild fish on the next pass. We landed a total of five steelhead and brought two home. Not a bad day.
