Anglers are always looking for an edge. One of the things that salmon anglers are doing is using “break away” flashers to eliminate the drag of the flasher once a fish is hooked. Kokanee have a particularly soft mouth and when hooked often tear out while bringing them to the boat. Anglers use very soft-tipped rods or even snubbers to try to counter this, but it is still an issue. What Graybill is doing is altering kokanee dodgers and blades to rig them as sliders. The dodgers and blades work as they are designed while trolling, but when a fish is hooked they slide up the line, eliminating the drag that a dodger or blade would cause if fixed to the line.
