Revo4 SX Low Profile Reel from Abu Garcia
I have been a fan of the Revo series of low profile reels for over a decade. My first one was the SX that performed better than any of the other casting reels I owned. I then got the SXT which was an even better version. I have been using the Revo3 STX for a few years now. Every time I got a new Revo I put it on my bass rod, which I spend time casting with more than any other rod. When I acquired the Revo4 SX it went on my bass rod for some trial casts. I made a couple of quick settings to the Infinity brake, which is a combination of a centrifugal brake and a magnetic brake. This makes eliminates backlashes when properly adjusted. This new reel is another level of smooth. The retrieve ratio of 6.6, and the beefed up construction of the aluminum allow frame and brass gears allows me to use this reel for a range of different fishing situations. I have used the reel for casting for bass, kokanee fishing and even fishing for Chinook salmon. One of the features that I really appreciate is the “gull wing” sideplate design that allows me to easily change spools. I always back my reels with spectrum braid and then “top shot” them with different line tests of fluorocarbon, up 20-pound. Now, with the flip of a switch on the sideplate I can swap out my spools with the appropriate line test for different fishing situations. No more tossing out yards of costly fluorocarbon line. The Power Stack Carbon Matrix Drag system is smooth throughout the drag range due to the extreme thickness of the drag washers. This drag system is very durable and delivers up to 24 pounds of pressure. Abu Garcia is known for quality, and the fact that all the Revo series reels I own are still performing flawlessly speaks to that. I don’t retire these reels, I just dedicate them to specific uses, like walleye fishing, where a smooth and consistent drag is important. I have mentioned just a few of the man features that you will appreciate about this new generation of low profile reels from Abu Garcia. I have had years of service from my Revo series reels, and I expect the same from the Revo4 SX. If you are serious about the quality of reels that you own, better check this one out before your next upgrade.
