I have known Keith Roe for years and have heard about the number of steelhead he would catch on the Methow and other rivers in our region. I have featured him on my Fishing TV Show and the Outdoor Insider TV Show. I have had him share his techniques for fishing for steelhead, and especially the jigs he uses, which he ties himself. These 1/32nd and 1/64 ounce jigs dwarf the 1/4th ounce and 1/8th ounce jigs I have been using on the Columbia, but they are amazingly effective. I have seen these jigs out-perform the larger jigs on the Methow and even the Columbia. He ties the jigs on sickle hooks and applies a pearl and powder coat finish to the jig heads. He ties subtle crystal flash into the marabou bodies to add just a touch of attraction. What really gets the fish going is the action of the marabou body of the jig. I have seen these jigs catch more steelhead than others being fished at the same time—with bait on the hook! Roe even uses these jigs to catch triploid rainbow on Rufus Woods Reservoir.
