I mentioned in an earlier review that I had won a Fetha Styx Downrigger rod. I was so impressed with it that I have since acquired one of their bass rods. I was headed down to the Columbia River Gorge to do some bass fishing and really wanted to try one out. The rod I got was their 6-foot, 10-inch Extra Fast Medium in the Homewater Bass Series. I will admit that I am not a great caster, and this is the shortest rod I have used for bass. I put a Revo STX casting reel on it, loaded with 12-pound Izore Platinum line. My fishing partner gave me an old, tried and true Pop R lure that weighed just ¼-ounce. I was nervous. These would be my first casts and I didn’t want to embarrass myself in front of a pro bass angler. I have to say I was amazed at how much power this rod had. We fished top water most of the day, and this rod threw it a mile! I thought that after doing this all day I would be sore. Not at all. It made casting so easy I suffered no fatigue. I was also worried about hook setting with this length of rod. No problem. It was so quick and powerful that I hooked smallmouth after smallmouth and had a blast. What I thought was going to be challenging day, getting used to this new outfit was pure pleasure. If you’re looking for a new bass rod take a serious look at what’s available from Fetha Styx. This one made me look like I knew what I was doing, that isn’t easy! Learn more about all the premium rods from Fetha Styx at
