Abu Garcia Revo SX30
Once again Abu Garcia has introduced a new spinning reel that exceeds their previous premium standards. I have been using their Sorron model for the past few seasons for steelhead fishing, and found it to surpass my needs for a reel that was designed specifically fishing with braided lines. They have replaced the Sorron with the new line of Revo class reels, and I have been using the SX30 this steelhead season. This model has the right line capacity, and a braid-ready spool, for the amount of the 17-pound hi-vis Berkley NanoFil line I use and the C6 carbon body makes “X-Craftic” frame extremely light. It has eight stainless steel bearings and a roller bearing so if operates effortlessly, and the “Duraflex” gear box assures long life. There two things that I insist on in a spinning reel for bobber and jig fishing for steelhead and they are a super smooth drag and a rapid retrieve. The Revo SX30 has the best I have ever had in a reel of this class. It has a Carbon Matrix hybrid drag that I can set and forget because it just doesn’t hesitate when a big steelhead decides to tear off a bunch of line. When a fish decides to make a run at the boat, I can keep up with it, as the Revo SX30 retrieves 33 inches of line with every crank of the handle. That’s fast. I have this reel matched with the Berkley Air 10-foot, 9-inch medium light spinning rod and it the balance is perfect. I can sail a bobber with ease and it has enough power to handle whopper steelhead. If you’re looking for a set up for bobber and jig fishing for, or fishing for any other species that requires a super smooth drag and fast retrieve, better check out the new Revo spinning reels from Abu Garcia. There will be one that matches your needs. You’ll have the pleasure of fishing with it for years
